Hullo, all!  Pron today.  Well, ok, semi-pron, or at the very least the discussion of such subjects.

Also, I'm debating whether or not to just transfer all my writing over to this journal, so I'm skipping posting this over at [livejournal.com profile] koren_m for the moment.  It's a real LJ cut below (unless you're reading this on [livejournal.com profile] beyond_insane in which case it's a link to my regular ElJay.

So a couple years ago, I did this BSG epic for NaNoWriMo. Finally, I've gone through and started the editing process, and one big chunk of it was a list of prompt words I got linked to by [livejournal.com profile] xdawnfirex (it was three years ago, and I don't have the direct community link any longer, unfortunately.) Some of them will work into the larger story, but many most of them didn't end up fitting into that timeline. Instead, I've edited them (thank you so much to [livejournal.com profile] ez_as_pi for the beta!) and I'm grouping them into loosely related chunks. 12 chunks, as a matter of fact, and thus begins the Twelve Days of Ficmas!

My goal is to post them in twelve parts over the next twelve days. They're entirely separate and autonomous though, so no worries about cliffhangers or missing parts.

Btw:

Final NaNo count: 64,928.

As previously mentioned, I learned a few important things.  First, that I should always stick to doing a daily word count when doing NaNoWriMo.  Second, that my place in this literary world (at least in regards to fiction) is writing fanfiction, not original stuff.  I actually had quite an epiphany about how exactly it is that my brain works that allows me to write fanfiction (it's related to mathematics and social dynamics, and came to me via reading this wonderful book (which is well written and quite engaging and not at all about genetics: The Math Gene by Keith Devlin) )  It involves imaginary "furniture" in imaginary "houses" among other things.

Speaking of NaNo stories... I have two needs.  Or rather, I have two stories that I really would like to finish and make into post-able stories, and would like beta-ish help on them.  If you're interested?  Please let me know either via comments or email. (cybermathwitch (at) gmail (dot) com)

Folie a Deux is a BSG Kara/Lee epic-y sort of story involving the two of them "remembering" all sorts of different lives past, future, and alternate present in order to come to a realization about their place in one another's life.  (And doesn't that sound all sorts of philosophical? giggle  Don't worry - there's smut, too.  and Pilot!Babies.)

Fade and Remain is a Harry/Ginny/Luna fic (seriously, check out [livejournal.com profile] flamingnargle ) that takes place after the events of Deathly Hallows (it's cannon up to that point, with some supposition about what's going on during the books that we may not see) and disregards the Epilogue entirely.  It's primary purpose is a vehicle for the 'ship, but I'm also trying to work out an actual plot involving the Elder Wand.

Both of these have at *least* 50,000 words in them, so they're already pretty big (and a big mess, technically as they were written in a sort of "free-for-all" manner) - right now what I really need for these is a new perspective about where I might need to go with them, as well as some reaction to what I've already got.  Grammatical editing is always appreciated, but it isn't the primary thing I'm looking for in a beta - *especially* at the stage I'm at.  I'm going mostly for story editing at this point.

Summary: After the Resistance, Kara has a new life as the Cylons' prisoner on New Caprica, but Lee is determined to bring her home.
Word Count: 11,824
Author's Notes: This was inspired by three things: Two of [livejournal.com profile] wisteria_'s fics: "Destiny's Rejects: A Cautionary Tale" and "The Greater Good", and the Season 3 promo trailer. It was supposed to be a brief, kind of dream-like fic of little snippets in time.

Then the muse ate my head. ::facepalm::

In the end, I wanted to really look at Kara's reactions to the idea and reality of motherhood, because it seems to be such a sharply divided issue in fic. I personally see it as something she never would have wanted for herself, but I wondered what it would take for her to accept it. And I wondered about Lee's reaction to Kara having a child. I also (because I am blatantly and unabashedly all about the Pilot!Love) wanted to "fix" the end of season 2. Which became more complex than I ever would have guessed (though I should have!) because try though I might I just couldn't make Anders into a total bastard. He really is a nice guy, drat it all. ;)

Shout-outs and thanks go to the following:

Brian, for giving me amazingly evil good ideas and insight regarding Leoben in particular. And for listening to me ramble about this for the last 3 weeks.
[livejournal.com profile] elflore, and [livejournal.com profile] serendipityxxi for reading every variation, paragraph, and proposal, usually at least three times as I worked this thing out and into its current form, and for offering skads of advice, opinions, suggestions, and occasional snippets of dialogue. I take full responsibility for any errors or faults remaining in the work. Quite likely if you find some, it's because I decided to be stubborn and do it my own way. ::huggles Elf in particular on that front.::
[livejournal.com profile] ez_as_pi for reading the final draft and giving me a fresh perspective on the mostly finished product. (As well as a hell of an ego boost. ::hugs::)
[livejournal.com profile] technosage for giving me prompts/suggestions on interactions between Kara and Eris. Was this the kind of thing you meant?

Yes, there is a sequel in the works.

So, the recent meme going around (warning - pic-heavy and not work safe per se) has me considering doing icons for several (not all, but many) of my interests. So there very well could be icon-spam from me later. Just saying. (Also have realized I need to go in and edit my interests, so badly. I added BSG-stuff on the fly, but I must add and remove other things.)

Also on my mind: NaNoWriMo 2006. In a nutshell, for those of you who don't know, the goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days (specifically the month of November). It's an international effort and many, many people join in on the insanity every year. One of the things about it though, is that it has to be something new. No working on a project you've already started writing, even if you don't count what was written previously. (Yes, I've fudged that and tossed out the whole bloody bit of scraps from a story before and started fresh with the same idea, but you're not really supposed to. I'm a bad girl. Someone should punish me. ;) (Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm in a mood.))

ANYWAY, I learned the hard way after a couple of less-than-stellar years (see 2004 and 2005 to be precise, after getting 40,000+ in 2003 on a HP fic) that I need to start planning NOW. (It's ok to write notes and such before the event. Just no actual text.)

I wanted to do something BSG-ish, of course, as that is my new obsession. And that's who's talking to me (almost non-stop, thankyouverymuch). But I didn't really have a huge arc-type story besides the fic that won't stop growing I'm currently in the middle of (which I damn well plan on finishing the rough draft of tonight because I'm getting tired of beating at it).

So I went back to that whole "this has all happened before, and it will all happen again" idea. And mythology. And history. And alternate realities. And a little thing I learned about during my foray into reading Xena/Gabrielle fic called Uber!fic.

So I'm going to write the realities of Lee and Kara. Past lives, what-ifs, alternate realities, the lot of it. A jumbled puzzle of interconnected peices of what is, what was, what shall be, and what might be, as well as what won't be. (Though don't expect total crack!fic sections, as the muses I've got lined up so far are the more ethereal dramatic types. I LOVE crack!fic - I just can't write it.) In that vein, I'm taking writing prompts. (I'll probably be fishing for them from now until at least mid-November - especially if I get stuck.)

So... What types of scenarios would you like to see alternate Lees and Karas in? Time period, situation, relationship, etc. Let me know. Chances are very, very good that you'll get your wish. 50,000 words is a lot of scenarios.

I think I know at least one reason why I LOVE Kara Thrace...

she's Willow's adorable-ness+Aeryn's kick-assness+Chiana michevious-ness all rolled into one.

So much love.

So, possible Season 2 spoilers for an interesting line of thinking that [profile] korens_puppy came up with... (BSG of course):

and also, meme

Taken from [personal profile] i_am_girlfriday

Official rules:
List seven songs you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your journal along with your seven songs then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.
[Unknown site tag]
It's too late at night for me to come up with 7 people - call it a free-for-all.

cybermathwitch: (Default)
Idea roughly gakked from [personal profile] simons_flower

So I have this notebook of little snippets, prompts, etc. that I've been writing all week. Several of them (ok, a *few* of them) may even become real fic someday. That being said, I thought that I'd tempt the bunnies see if any of these might get stuck in anyone else's brain so that they'll write about it intrigue anyone else. Take a line, a thought, an inspiration or the whole kit and caboodle and do something with it.  I dare you. ::eg::

I'm not abandoning them, per se - but since two people aren't apt to come up with exactly the same thing, it shouldn't matter much if I do write more on them later.  Credit for the bit I provide would be appreciated, and I'd love to see what you do with it if you do use it.  ; )

SPOILERS for any and all of season 2 may apply.

Ok, spamming the f-lists tonight, I know, but can someone make "Resurrection Ship II" better*?  Please?

Anybody?

*by which I mean fic that fixes my kara, my lee, my Kara/Lee, and or Kara and Papadama?  OMG.  They broke them.  They really broke them.  :(

cybermathwitch: (Can You Hear Me?)
Actually, not entirely true.  I have a random questioning type of thing for everyone, particularly my Fandom-type people.  (which, after seeing how long it was, I decided to put at the end.  BSG-immediate things first:)

I'm about to go mainline season 2.  I think I might need you guys to pray for me.  (oh, yeah, this is gonna frakking hurt....)

I have a fic-in-progress based from the Season 3 Trailer that went up yesterday(ish) (you can the non-Nickelback version here and the Nickelback version (my personal fav, cause yay! here.) - anyone wanna beta-read?  It's L/K ...

And the rest:

1.  Do you address yourself in your journal to different groups of people w/o necessarily limiting the view to that group?  Like, do you shout-out to a particular fandom, or your family, or someone individually, without f-locking it to a group or necessarily restricting it from anyone who stops by (as it were)?  Mostly wanting reassurance that I'm not quite as much of a freak as I sometimes think I am - which leads me to question...

2.  Are we different?  Are we, as fen, somehow essentially different (and please note that I don't use the term "better" or "worse" here - no one take offense at this line of questioning please) from other people in they way we look at the world?  Or at the very least this part of the world?  I mean, I know people who like shows.  Or like book series.  Maybe they even try to make it home in time to catch and ep, or go out and buy a new book the day it's out.  But that's (relatively) surface.  What I'm talking about is that feeling in your stomach that's like a flock of butterflies trying to get out, or bubbles trying to burst, that makes you happy and giggly and bouncy inside because you've discovered something.  [profile] saimhe said something once about how happy Fridays make her.  For me, at least, it's a lot like falling in love.  The characters have a reality because they matter to us, they "talk" to us (look at the fic, folks!  how many people talk about not being able to get a character to "shut up"?), and they influence us.

It's obsession, and it isn't always a comfortable one.  Like being in love, you have to take the good and the bad, the wonderfully uplifting with the heartbreaking-ly depressing.  I wonder if it isn't something more essential than an intellectual interest.  Are we perhaps more apt to throw ourselves into things (many things, not just fannish things) with our whole hearts, rather than guarding ourselves?  Are we more willing to embrace the entirety of experience than other people may be?  And in this I mean in our whole lives.  The more I think about it, the more I think we are.  Those of you I know, I know that you tend to do things with your whole heart and soul, even if others think that it may not be such a good idea to do it that way.  (I keep thinking back to the last day of any number of Scaper gatherings and how many tears there are - not to mention how many laughs.)

(I didn't start this out to be this deep a thought pattern, but go with me here)  I know I'm more comfortable with myself around fen.  I'm more comfortable laughing as loudly as I want to or can, I'm more comfortable saying what's on my mind, and I'm more comfortable being hyper when I'm around you guys.  I'm more comfortable around you guys than I am around friends that in most ways I'm closer to.

-- to add a religious element here, this is the heart of Dionysian experience for me.  Ecstasis and catharsis require that total commitment to the thing.
cybermathwitch: (Default)
Imogen Heap's "Angry Angel" NEEDS TO BE A KARA/LEE VID! No, really. ::wishes she had a computer that could handle video editing:: With the exception of the gender on the first several lines (because they're really more Kara than Lee) it's just wonderfully, darkly perfect.

"Angry Angel"

This is an obsession, a kind of agression with himself
It's the way hell always be
He loves to rebel to go against his ten commandments
For him, thats just being free.

And he always will, get his thrills, the only way he knows how
Well it might make you frown
But he loves, being that dove, roaming where he cares to go
To a state of mind that no-one knows

Over there stands my angry angel
And hes shaking his head, in disgrace with me
Yeah over there stands my angry angel
And hes frowning like hell, but i'm not feeling guilty

Over and over again, more and more for the pain
To release himself, from this shell
Time after time, you may glare at
Him for the way he looks like something drawn up from hell

But that's just his cover
From what is under it
All his imagination, his
Passion for a creation
Which he has discovered,
Uncovered a world, of
Amazing sensations
His own little nation

I dont care,
I'm flying
cybermathwitch: (Default)
This is me begging, pleading, down on my knees - I'm in search of just about anything Kara/Lee. BSG is my new crack (or possibly it is better likened to heroin?) and they are my new OTP. If I have trouble deciding between an icon saying OTP or BFF (best friends forever) then I'm completely sold. Love love love love love love love... and need fic and vids.

(especially because I just did a naughty thing and watched both ep 2x15 "Scar" and the last three minutes of "Lay Down Your Burdens, Part 2" with the season 3 trailer on Skiffy's Pulse. (Since I've only watched the Miniseries and eps 1x01 - 1x11 right now, needless to say I was a little traumatized.) And I think I kinda hate Anders. Haven't actually met him, but again, I watched "Scar" and was like "whimper?")

This show is gonna fucking break my heart into a million tiny peices isn't it?
