Firstly: Happy birthday [livejournal.com profile] poetheather!

Secondly: Various updates and so forth.

I finished my fic for [livejournal.com profile] hermionebigbang. I still need to work like a mad thing on [livejournal.com profile] startrekbigbang, [livejournal.com profile] polybigbang, and [livejournal.com profile] hp_triangle. I know that my Star Trek fic is about Gaila (and have spent WAAAAAAYYY too much time and energy on creating Orion words for family members, and not nearly enough on the plot for this point in the process). I want to write a Sam/Dean/OFC SPN story for the Poly Big Bang (though by that I mean that Sam/OFC and Dean/OFC are going on simultaneously without any direct Sam/Dean-ness involved). If there's anyone out there on my lovely flist who's fluent in seasons 1 and 2 of SPN who wants to be a reader/cheerleader, then I would be much obliged. My HP Triangle fic should be much shorter, but I have a lot of world-shifting to deal with since it's AU. Oh, and I picked up one of the orphan pieces of art on [livejournal.com profile] hermionebigbang so that's another at least 500 words I need to write.

My brain has been eaten by Little Mosque on the Prairie This is one of those shows that just frickin' makes. me. happy.

Right this minute I have a headache like whoa. Well, it's actually my neck and back but it's because of and causing (simultaneously) the headache, so it's a headache. I want ice cream and more eps of Little Mosque and maybe to finish Phoenix and Ashes.

And hey, Uhura is suing Captain Cragen on Law & Order: SVU right now. Hunh.

I need a strategy for the new TV season. I'm OCD like that. I feel kind of... adrift because VCR recording isn't in the cards anymore, but I don't have anything like a TIVO either. I need to figure out what I want to keep up with and watch, and when it's on and where the eps are online in case I miss it. It may be time for a new TV post/round-up. Probably yeah.

[livejournal.com profile] whedonland is kicking my ass, and [livejournal.com profile] legendland is making me happy. I apparently don't have enough of a driving interest in enough of the Whedonverse (which is weird since the only parts I don't like so much are seasons 4-7 of Buffy and seasons 4 and 5 of Angel.) I can't tell if those are just the parts that most everyone else focuses on, or if I'm just on crack or something? But [livejournal.com profile] legendland is AWESOME. Except that I stayed up way too late last night and was too frickin' tired from the weekend to get any headers done and submitted for the header challenge, and don't really have enough interest in Richard or Denna by themselves to do headers for them.

Oh, and I've discovered LiveMocha which is a really, really awesome language learning site. It uses a really mixed up audio/visual/writing/speaking/quizzes/flashcards sort of method as well as user-helping-user elements that are really neat. When you submit a written or spoken exercise, it tags people who speak the language you're trying to learn to check over it, and sometimes pings you to check things for others. I kind of love it so far, but I wish it had Hebrew. :( (I'm doing Japanese, French, and Greek right now, though.)

I have religious ponderings too, but they seem kind of out of place shoved in here at the end. So I'll have to save them for another post.

I'm posting the icons that came from this week's challenges at [livejournal.com profile] str_icontest (#5: Out of Character), [livejournal.com profile] richlan_ic (#19), and [livejournal.com profile] seekerstillness (#6). All of the images were provided by the community as prompts, and the textures used are from Hybrid Genesis ([profile] hgx).

So You Think You Can Dance - Top 10 )

I liked this week's Warehouse 13, HawthoRNe, and In Plain Sight (though I'm disturbed by the glass of wine in front of Jinx at the end. I think this was probably a prop error, since everyone was freakin' sitting there and not saying anything about it, but it was a pretty *big* mistake (as nit-picky things go) and I wagged a disappointed finger in their general direction.)

And now I'm off to make icons, cause [livejournal.com profile] seekerstillness, [livejournal.com profile] richlan_ic, and [livejournal.com profile] str_icontest are all due tomorrow. I think. I hope, anyway.

Meme gakked from [livejournal.com profile] harmonylsc
Rules:
1. Anyone who looks at this entry has to post this meme and their current wallpaper on their Livejournal. (You know... if you want)
2. Explain in five sentences why you're using that wallpaper!
3. Don't change your wallpaper before doing this! The point is to see what you had on!

Ok - in case it's not patently obvious why I have this one up: it's a cap from Legend of the Seeker, featuring Richard and Kahlan.  They are my new 'shippy obsession (thank [livejournal.com profile] serendipityxxi , it's totally her fault) and I think they're beautiful.  I think this picture, in particular is incredibly sexy, and very compelling.  It's something about the way that he's looking at her, like she's the only woman in the world, and it really gets to me.  (The version on my handheld is actually a cap from a different frame, and the look on his face is even more intense, if you can imagine that, but I couldn't find a high-res version to use on the laptop.)

(I am admitting to something that might be akin to cheating, as I have seen this meme floating around for weeks, and didn't bother with it initially because I kind of hated the wallpaper I had up at the time (river rocks that came with the OS) and it did remind me that I ought to change it to something I actually liked. The old one is also below, as a thumbnail. I think I had it up because it covered up a defect on my screen that was bothering me. (In my defense, the R/K cap already *was* the background of my handheld which was the computer I was using the most at the time.))

First - [livejournal.com profile] comedownstairs  in particular, as well as everyone else I know who is loving on the New Trek - you must watch this: http://arefadedaway.livejournal.com/295080.html  (I'll give you a hint - it involves New Trek and a Glee cover.)

I am a geek *AND* a gleek!  Whee!

Second - if y'all aren't watching Legend of the Seeker yet, you must do so.  It's all on Hulu.  You have no excuse.  Go watch!  It is pretty and 'shippy and violent and sexy and did I mention pretty?  (My husband is particularly in love with the fight choreography.)  Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] serendipityxxi  for turning me on to it. :)

Third: Have a weekly dose of Burn Notice and Royal Pains (both of which should also be coming to a Hulu near you, soon.) I am reserving judgment on BN until I have seen more, though so far, so good, and I LOVE ROYAL PAINS.  Hank can be my MD anytime.  Eye candy aside, the dialogue is quick and clever, and I like all the characters we've been introduced to thus far.  (Except the ones you're not supposed to like, of course.)  [info]icepixie, you might want to check it out - it's a little bit like Northern Exposure, but with fewer moose (mooses?).  Also, it and Burn Notice both scream "SUMMER" to me - probably residuals from sitting up late watching Silk Stalkings (another great beach-themed show) on summer nights when I was in junior high.

I like Mental on Fox as well, but am less enthusiastic about it than the above two shows.

I've also been watching So You Think You Can Dance, both because I have a huge crush on Cat and because I am a dance junkie.  But I think I like the audition/Vegas segments better than the actual competition portions.  Is that weird?  I don't know who I'm pulling for yet.

And lastly a meme, stolen from [info]i_am_girlfriday :

The problem with LiveJournal is that we think we're close, but really, we know nothing about each other.

So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me, something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about, or something you've always been curious about but have never asked, or something completely silly that you'd like me to answer for kicks. No limits on the range of questions, either: ask me anything you want to know about, whether it's a fannish opinion or a question about a fic of mine or trivia about my real life or my thoughts on events in the offline world.
