Aug. 27th, 2004 06:08 amTotally unrelated to anything else in this post: I get to go see Maroon 5 tonight! Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Now, for the main point of this post...
I need fic help, desperately. I'm very, very, very, VERY grateful that I have so many nifty cool fic (particularly Trio) writers on my friends list, because I'm having serious characterization problems.
I can get H/Hr in trio fic going... I can certainly get R/Hr in trio fic going. I can even figure out how to get R and H to accept Hr w/ both of them...
I'm completely at wits end trying to make R/H work - in something like character.
Oi.
I'm thinking something like 6th or 7th year - though I'm willing to use post-hogwarts scenarios.
I'm not asking for anyone to write it for me (hey, I'm always open to fic though...) - just to give me some advice about how to handle it. I don't want to make the two of them effeminate (sp?) at all - I want them to still be Ron and Harry. I'm just not sure how to get them started on being RonandHarry.

Date: 2004-08-27 01:07 pm (UTC)what specifically are you having a hard time with? is it that they're too obviously into girls to be into each other? is it that they're too obviously "just friends" to be into each other? with both of those issues, i usually sneak in some tidbit of curiousity which makes one or both of them suddenly contemplate being with the other. boys are always curious, right? hee. (maybe one watches the other sleep and suddenly finds himself feeling something different about him ... ?)
i usually start my own harry/ron with one of them having had a secret crush on his best friend for forever. that is my all-time favorite scenario in any setting. any way that might work for you here?
last but not least, if none of this has been helpful, i'll offer to read over whatever you've got whenever you've got something and try to be more specific with my suggestions, if you'd like. just let me know.
i love me some harry/ron! heart! sigh.

Date: 2004-08-27 03:37 pm (UTC)ok, here's the thing. It's not that I think that they're into to girls too much (frankly, I think they're both bi... or at least have the potential to be - Ron *might* be in the Jim Ellison camp of God no, I'm straight - I just happened to fall in love with someone who happened to be a guy (Sentinel, if you're not familiar with it - I'm never sure who's in what fandoms)).
I think it's that they're really damn dense.
Hermione has the potential to smack them upside the head, metaphorically - there are some *very* obvious "why yes, yes she's a girl" things that one can play w/... and it's almost going to be expected that they'll consider her at some point. But I'm having trouble figuring out what will make them go "doh! Wait... maybe I like ::insert name here::"
Curiosity is good - but everything I've so far tried to have them curious about has come off sounding - well, it's not a good word for it, but kind of girly. Or maybe I'm being a little oversensitive to it all.
Argh! (see why I'm so confused? ::g::)

Date: 2004-08-27 11:35 pm (UTC)The Conligare prologue *was* going to be the beginning of the story - but for several reaons I've decided that I'm just gonna rework it to stand alone and unconnected. Then there's an excerpt that's Harry/Ron - *after* they've realized they like each other.
Any help at all is *greatly*greatly* appreciated. ::g::

Date: 2004-08-28 03:20 am (UTC)Right, so I really have no clue. But, hey, everything is always easier when alcohol is involved! (and ya never know, it could work. ;) And if it does, I'd happily beta it for you! ::hint hint:: )

Date: 2004-08-31 11:53 pm (UTC)the prologue piece is driven more by narrative than by introspection, so continuing in that vein would mean that the easiest and most believable hook-up would be something situational, i think. the sparks generated by the reunion of the three of them, especially on the heels of harry realizing ron isn't dead, are a great catalyst. i feel like harry and ron could easily have each felt those sparks but at the same time feel a great reluctance to pursue anything with the other. this could be for any number of reasons, the easiest of which, i think, is "but he's my best mate, i couldn't possibly really want to kiss him ... could i?" or similar.
does that all make sense? is that any help at all? really, i think you've got good characters and a good sense of plot and it really shouldn't be too hard to get harry and ron into bed together, they really just need a little tension, a little angst, and a nudge in the right direction. hee.
let me know if a) this wasn't helpful and/or b) i can be of any more help. best of luck! heart!
