I didn't entirely like Lee being promoted out of the Vipers either...though I think there's plenty of story mileage there. (And I love the bit in the S3 trailer with him confronting his dad as almost an equal.) On the other hand, I do honestly believe that a lot of these things we're seeing are temporary. This isn't going to become the New Caprica show. Anders is pretty clearly deathmarked, the poor guy, and I don't foresee Lee & Dee lasting in the long run. I even think Lee might very well end up back in a Viper, somehow, through some funky circumstance.
And I really don't think the writers have given up on Kara & Lee, I think it's just an even longer, twistier road than Joss or Kemper gave their ships. It fits BSG's harsher world, that people might need to marry the wrong partners before they hook up with the right ones.
I really do know how ya feel, though. I do miss my Viper combat with Lee & Kara, dammit! As much as I love so much of the show, am even intrigued with the new twists, they've never topped 'Act of Contrition/You Can't Go Home Again' in my book!
