A New Farscape Fic

Title: Education Isn’t Everything

Author: Koren M.

Copyright: August 2002

Disclaimer: Aeryn and Sikozu, as well as everything else
Farscape belongs to Henson, Hallmark, Nine Networks
Australia and all the wonderful cast and crew that bring the
show to life. Not me. Absolutely no money is being made off
of this story, it’s done entirely out of love for the series
and characters.

Spoilers: Everything up to “Natural Election” but nothing
blatant.

Rating: G

Summary: Sikozu is offered a lesson.

Author’s Notes: Somehow or other I got hooked on the idea of
Aeryn/Sikozu. They’ve had almost no on-screen interaction,
but the two characters seem to resonate off of one another. This is a far cry from a ‘shipper fic - it’s
primarily a character study - but you have to start
somewhere.

While she was peripherally aware of the presence watching
her from the shadows she didn’t pause in what she was doing.
Instead she slowed down her movements so that it was easier
to see what she was doing. Instead of working on force and
speed she focused on extension, balance, and form.

Slowly the figure shifted down the stacks of cargo bins
until she was no longer hidden. Sikozu ended up sitting on
the floor cross-legged and attentive while Aeryn finished
her routine.

Aeryn strode over to where she’d left a container of water
and drank, then fell into some light stretching and waited.

“You were a Peacekeeper.”

She didn’t look over. “Yes.”

“Like Scorpius.”

“In some ways. Not in others. I was born into the service.”

“You brought him aboard. Do *you* trust him?”

“I don’t distrust him.”

Silence. Finally, Sikozu spoke up again. Her voice was
closer this time. “I don’t understand.”

Aeryn turned and found the smaller woman standing a few
steps behind her. “I... accept him for what he is. He will
do what he sees as being in his best interest first. At the
moment, we are far preferable to Commandant Grayza.”

“He saved my life. That was completely outside his
interest. It gained him nothing.”

“Nothing that you can see.” Aeryn held out a hand. “Did any
of your studying include learning how to fight?”

Sikozu blinked and scoffed. “Of course not. The
Organization is hardly a group of street toughs.”

Aeryn’s eyes narrowed and her voice sharpened. “Education
isn’t everything, Sikozu. Particularly not in our world.
And despite where you think you ought to be, you *are* in
our world. Not knowing how to fight - at least well enough
to protect yourself - is not only a liability to your own
safety, but to everyone else’s as well. Depend on yourself
first. Then on your friends if you are lucky enough to find
any.”

Sikozu cocked her head and stared at Aeryn. She was still
holding out a hand. “Are you offering to teach me?”

“Are you willing to learn?”

Microts slid by as she considered the offer. Her life had
shifted more suddenly that any gravity field and it had left
her reeling. Cunning and guile had kept her alive while on
the Grudecks' ship, and Scorpius’s intervention had saved her
life on Arnessk. But he was in a cell, and if what this woman
said was true, her cunning would hardly keep her safe for
very much longer. Studying for the Organization had taught
her nothing if not self-preservation and to grab any and all
tools made available.

“Yes.”

In other, related news, I stayed up all night (and I do mean, *all* night) last night working with graphics and code and created a Sikozu page. The code somehow got fu-barred when I uploaded it (stupid aol servers), but I'll try and get that fixed tonight. The art is still visible though, and really pretty, if I do say so myself. I'm proud of it, anyway. Go here:

Yay you! ::claps and applauds::

Me like...
I honestly kinda like Sikozu... She's too smart for her own good, but I like her... :)

See, I really do to. And the thing is, she was kind of - well, not waning on me, exactly, but not holding my interest as much until two things happened. 1. that fantastic scene with Rygel in ISTIA, and 2. I was working on those graphics. I *love* what Raelee Hill is doing in those shots (all the pics I used were screencaps from DallasScaper's site - gotta add that to my page). There's all this stuff I see going on under the surface that makes me really, really want to see more stuff with her. I want to know more about her.
