(no subject)

So I'm actively avoiding making icons for [livejournal.com profile] bsg_challenge and posting instead. After avoiding posting all day. 'Cause I make sense. Sure.

trip to my dentist - things you didn't want to know:

I knocked a front tooth out (ALL the way out) when I was 9. It was, of course, an adult tooth. So they put it back and did a root canal. (I discovered novacaine/numbness freaks the shit out of me. To this day, when they've had to do a filling I haven't let them give me any. Yes, the temporary pain is better than the several hours of deadness. No, this isn't some kind of perverse "i like the pain" thing - or this particular type of pain isn't a kind I like, in any case. It's just preferable to the alternative, omg.)

Said tooth has done well and stayed in for about 16 years. It's finally breaking down and will have to be replaced with an implant. I found out yesterday afternoon that this process will take a year. No clue how much money it'll take (though the "temporary" tooth (which will fit in my mouth kind of like a retainer and have to be taken in and out when I eat and sleep - blech! - AND FOR A YEAR! ZOMG!) will be about $423.), but I know my dental insurance will only cover about 1/2 the cost.

To compound all this, it's going to be much more difficult due to my hyper-phobia about novacaine. It's not the needles, as stated above. If I can't get my MD to prescribe something strong enough to keep me calm enough to let them give me the novacaine in the first place and something else to take *immediately* afterward to knock my ass out until it's worn off, then they'll have to do IV sedation and a different doctor will have to do the procedure. And because this isn't an actual physical allergy but a psychological issue? Am being looked at as a freak who is making this more difficult than it has to be. The dentist has obviously never had to live with OCD and anxiety disorder. (Please note, he was very nice, and the last bit is probably entirely my own insecurities talking out loud, but still. *I* feel that way about me, and I have to live with it, so I *know* - I can't fathom how someone else who doesn't could get it.)

And I missed work today because I was running late, and since I had to leave early yesterday for the dental appt. I was better off missing an entire day than clocking in 2 minutes late. Because that makes sense. Stupid policies. But since I was in desperate need for lots of sleep and have been running a fever of about 99 (give or take a point or eight) it works out just as well.

finally, meme, because I need cheering up (snurched from [livejournal.com profile] comedownstairs):

Leave a list of fictional characters in your journal that you would love to get a message from. It is readers mission, should they choose to accept it, to write you an in-character "letter" from a character on that list. The message can be anything, it could be a love note or even fandom related etc. Feel free to comment on each other's letters. And multiple takes on one character are welcome.

2. Lee Adama
3. Sharon "Boomer" Valerii (the original)
4. Helo
6. John Crichton
7. Aeryn Sun

Well, I've perused your entire journal and there isn't a single thing worth 'borrowing' or stealing! Nothing to get in trouble with, nothing to break by accident. This is very disappointing. I guess I'll go back to Daniel's office and plot to overthrow the Orii, but that's so very boring! Especially when Carter starts on her techno babble although Cameron's always nice to stare at during those monologues...

My FAVORITE MEEM EVER!!!!! Much love, will write a better letter when I'm not headachy :)

*Vwooooooooorp, vwoooooooooooorp, and a blue box appears on the blasted heath of LJ-land, a light flashing on its top. It settles with a thump, and the Tenth Doctor pokes his head out of the doors; Rose peeks over his shoulder*

"Hullo!" the Doctor says, "Isn't this a lovely day? Well, in fact it isn't, actually, I'm afraid. You see there's the bad news, and there's the really, really bad news. Which would you like to hear first?"

ooh...this is tough. Must ponder at length when I'm not quite so tired.

I shall ponder this while cleaning....

Snarky, yes, but good-natured

Dear [livejournal.com profile] cybermathwitch,

It has come to my attention that Lt. Starbuck is currently being portrayed as a woman. I writing on his behalf because I feel he is far too angry for clear thought. While I understand that this is neither your fault or your doing, your persistence in this bizarre rumor has caught his attention. It has been my observation, one that has been confirmed by both Miss Cassiopea and my own daughter, that Lt. Starbuck is indeed a male. Cpt. Apollo, who has been living in close quarters with Lt. Starbuck for many years, has also confirmed the Lieutenant's gender. While I will take all necessary measures to prevent Lt. Starbuck from acting rashly, I cannot make any guarantees. I am confident that he will not actually shoot an unarmed civilian, but I have asked Cpt. Apollo to keep close watch on him until this rumor dies down.

Thank you for your cooperation,
Cmmdr. Adama

P.S. He sends this photo. Lt. Starbuck is pictured here with a cigar and a woman, as usual. I humbly ask that you maintain discretion as to the identity of the woman. I do not think Miss Cassiopea would understand.

In reply to the above note from Adama, I have to say I like this female version of Starbuck much more. Actually, while both versions of Starbuck are (probably) very nice to look at, I think I prefer to watch Kara Thrace, *cough*undressed*cough*.

But if Dee asks, you didn't hear this from me, okay? In fact, tell her, that while Kara and I have been friends (she likes to hear referred to it in past tense for some reason) I have never stared at her while she was taking a shower.

Lee Adama

ps: If Kara Thrace asks? I didn't say the above AT ALL. Got it? Especially the part about the shower.

I am amused now.

Listen up, nugget. You will report to the flight deck. You will not skip out because you're sad and want to talk about your feelings. Go cry to someone who gives a frak. I don't want to see your tears or else I'll really give you something to cry about. I'm not your mommy and I'm not your friend. As I have told you repeatedly before, my callsign is Starbuck, but you may refer to me as God.

Actually, this may make you feel better about the dental thing. The woman who sits nect to me at work just had it done, and John *needs* to have that done, too.

1) money - the insurance will probably cover half, and the dentist will probably set up a payment plan for the rest. Most do.

2) novocaine - you won't get any. This will be classified as "dental surgery," and you will just plain be under for the whole shebang.
